We applaud the creation of the Carbon Market Association of Uganda and look forward to market dynamics creating solutions that benefit communities at a grassroots level.

At the GRO Foundation, we view the Carbon Market as the number one opportunity for Uganda and indeed all of Africa to create an African owned product that is sold on the global market. If done right, Carbon holds the key to a cascading African success story for the coming generation. GRO intends to play a role in enabling nations and communities to directly benefit from this opportunity.

All of Africa needs policies and regulations in place to attract foreign direct investment without the fear of red tape. At the same time regulations must ensure that a significant amount of profits remain for the benefit of communities and national institutions. Localization of talent and skills training is needed so that eventually the projects become African owned.

The government needs to create a framework and Platform for business to thrive. Business on the other hand needs to take corporate social responsibility and realize that this is an opportunity to choose to make a lasting difference over maximizing profits. GRO Foundation is dedicated to teach Africa how climate finance can be used to make Africa independent of charity.

Climate Finance is an opportunity to create a lasting impact for Africa. A successful African story will need forgiveness, mutual trust, and love. We all must come closer together and truly collaborate.

In that context, we call on all stakeholders in the ecosystem, to be aware of their responsibilities and ask themselves this every day. In a world where you can be anything, why not be kind? | As Laban M Joshua observes.
