The 10th World Water
Forum, the largest international gathering in the water sector, kicked off
on May 18th, 2024, at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in
Indonesian. The weeklong event, co-hosted by the World Water Council and the
Indonesian government, will bring together heads of state, international
organizations, government officials, experts, scholars, and industry leaders to
address the theme of "WATER FOR SHARED PROSPERITY."
In his opening remarks, Indonesian
President Joko Widodo emphasized the pressing issue of water sustainability, as
global water needs have increased sharply due to population and industrial
growth. Meanwhile, the availability of quality and sustainable water is
increasingly difficult due to environmental degradation and climate change.
Loïc Fauchon, the President of
the World Water Council, echoed the call for global cooperation, urging all
parties to become "Water Warriors" in the fight to achieve water
security and tackle global water problems. He also asserts that Water is
politics at all levels, and we must engage, discuss, and advance innovative
approaches to ensure global water security.
Representatives from United
Nations agencies also underscored the importance of water in achieving Sustainable
Development Goal 6, which focuses on providing universal access to clean water
and sanitation. However, the challenges to attain this goal are compounded by
the severe water crises caused by climate change in many regions.
The 10th World Water Forum in
Bali will provide a platform for dynamic discussions, knowledge sharing, and
the presentation of innovative solutions to address these pressing
water-related issues. Follow
